Estimates only

Home Fuel Math calculators give estimates for general planning. Results depend on the inputs you provide and on published or typical figures (tank dimensions, appliance ratings, fuel energy content, average usage) that may not match your tank, equipment, home, weather or prices. Tank charts in particular are approximate: manufacturers note their own charts are only accurate to a few percent, and tanks vary.

Do not rely on these tools alone for decisions about safety, fuel purchases, equipment sizing, or buying or selling fuel. Check with your fuel supplier or a licensed heating (HVAC) professional before acting on a result, especially before letting a tank run low, sizing a tank or generator, or replacing a heating system.

Safety

• Only use propane heaters indoors if they are specifically rated for indoor use, and follow the manufacturer's ventilation instructions. Grills, griddles, camp stoves, fire pits, patio heaters and portable generators are for outdoor use only. Using them indoors, in tents, garages or campers can cause fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Install carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.
• If you smell gas, leave the area immediately, don't operate switches or phones nearby, and call your propane or gas supplier or 911 from a safe place.
• Standby generators, tanks, gas piping and transfer switches must be installed by qualified, licensed professionals according to local codes.
• Do not dig around buried oil tanks or open, move or modify fuel tanks yourself.

They are used only to identify the products whose published specifications we reference. Home Fuel Math is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

Use of the site

You may use the calculators freely for personal and business purposes. Please don't copy the site wholesale or use automated tools that place a heavy load on it. Links to other websites are provided for reference; we are not responsible for their content.
